We hold the home page photo contest twice each year. The winning entries are displayed on our home page in a slide show for six months. Click the "Contest Winners" tab to view the slide show.

The slide show from our third contest has been on display since May 2009. Just over 413 photographs were submitted by 105 photographers for Home Page Photo Contest No.3. The show was juried by Julie Saul, owner of the Julie Saul Gallery in New York City.

This from Julie's juror statement:

"My selection process is just looking. I went through the possible selections about 10 times and then narrowed it down. Really completely intuitive and trying to keep my mind open.

"I somewhat consciously chose work from three different categories- people, landscape/journalism and conceptual/still life. Also, inadvertently, I have chosen a strong color, black and white, and the third is sort of in-between. I really do not consciously prefer work which utilizes any particular media (digital/ analog, black and white or color).

"In all cases I feel there is a clarity to the vision which indicates that the photographer knows what he wants to say and expresses it clearly. The still life is about ambiguity -- but that is clearly indicated. They are all successfully formal have good compositional qualities and with a timeless quality. Many of the works offered nod their heads to well known photographers like Irving Penn or Elliott Erwitt but these choices I feel really hold their own. Furthermore, they adhere very well to your chosen theme. In general, all of the works submitted show an engagement and sometimes a passion for the act of seeing the world and making photographic images to record a vision."
